One month from the start of the war in Ukraine - our game available for free to relieve the mental burden amongst children
Today marks 1 month from the start of the war in Ukraine, a lot can happen in such a short time. It is suggested that more than 10 million people have been forced to leave their homes and about 3.5 million of those displaced have fled the country. Most of the refugees are women and children. One month for a child is a substantial amount of time. Everything they have witnessed and felt can leave a mark on their developing mind. The mental implications of war, relocation, and integrating to a different environment are vast. Children need all the support they can get during these turbulent times and Triumf Health has the solution for this.
Triumf Health, an Estonian based health technology start-up, which is developed with the purpose of offering children age-appropriate psychological and health behavioural support embedded into a fun game environment, has offered their solution, Triumf Hero, free of charge for a little over two weeks. “It is vital that children get mental health support in their native language”, said Triumf Health CEO Kadri Haljas, who is also a doctor of psychology. Today, Triumf Hero is available in all the countries directly affected by the war or have refugees brought in at substantial numbers. Triumf Hero is available in Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, Estonia and during the course of last week has added Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark to the list of the countries that the solution is available in.
As Triumf Health has not brought in any outside investments, the only way to get the solution out to the public for free, is with the help of corporate sponsors. Triumf Health is very grateful to observe that many companies see the value in investing into children's mental wellbeing. One of Triumf Health sponsors, Telia’s Estonian communication director Katrin Isotamm has said the following: “Children’s rights and security are among the key focuses of Telia´s responsible business. We believe that digital solutions can empower and develop children, and reduce potential isolation. Triumf Hero´s mental health app is an excellent example of how a digital solution created in cooperation with kids and scientists can in these difficult times support war refugees across the world. The capable team behind it has engaged volunteers from Ukraine and made this needed solution available in new languages and countries very fast. We hope that with the support from Telia, Triumf Hero will reach as many kids as possible as fast as possible, and support them in the current crisis.” This endorsement shows the impact of Triumf Hero and the trust different partners put in Triumf to help children in this crisis.
“Looking back at this month, it has been surreal. The urgency of the need as well as the magnitude of it has had us working as fast as we can to ensure quality science based support is available to use also in Ukrainian for everyone in need. We are very proud that we have been able to help with supporting children's mental wellbeing and also help them take their mind off of stressors in a fun and inviting game environment”, said Kadri Haljas. During this month Triumf Health has been able to translate their existing solution to Ukrainian, make it available for free and also put out the free solution in Estonian, English, Swedish, Finnish and Russian.
Triumf Health has always been an innovator and will continue to be at the forefront of digital health solutions. This means constant updates to meet the growing needs of children and perfecting their existing algorithms to be suitable in turbulent times. Triumf Health CTO, ex-Gameloft, Leandro Gil is currently recruiting programmers with extensive experience to keep up with the latest technological practices to handle the growth: “Mental health innovation enabled by an engaging mobile game environment to build a healthier future for children is a complex problem to work on, we need all hands on deck”. Gil continues: “We are releasing new features in maximum speed to engage children in taking care of their mental health. Our latest update focused on emotions. This will help children engage more meaningfully and will have more impact on the development of emotion regulation.”
Triumf Health has been named as one of the top digital health providers in Europe. “We have the data, we have the solution, all we need is a way to get to children faster, remove the barriers on the way”, said Kadri Haljas. It’s not only providing the Triumf Hero game for children, there need to be more conversations about children’s mental health in general. Today, Triumf Health has a wonderful team of 7 Tallinn University students who have started company’s TikTok channels that offer educational, fun and inspirational content for children. “TikTok is a direct way to reach children in various locations. Our aim is to get to as many children as possible with our solution, as it is beneficial to everyone, regardless of the current situations”, said Dr. Haljas.
